Does low vs high A even matter?

A friend of mine keeps pushing the idea that a low A is perfect for safety, but when I look at the data I'm not convinced. Sure, a low A might feel calmer, but the reports show collapses near launch and landing are the main reason for injury, not mid-air comfort. If the collapse happens too low to recover, then the sub-label on your glider is irrelevant. For me, collapse resistance, brake travel length, and the ability to kill the wing matter more than any "low" or "high" tag. Has anyone else done side-by-side flying with different A wings and found any real difference when things go wrong, or is it marketing talk that reassures new pilots?
 
It makes sense to be cautious about A-class marketing. When it comes to safety, the way a wing handles collapse and how well it recovers are way more important than just its certification level. Even low-A wings can fail dramatically, while high-A wings that have solid passive safety features usually bounce back more effectively. Pilot skill and conditions are bigger safety factors than certification marketing
 
It's great to hear another pilot say that how a wing actually recovers matters more than what it's called. I hadn't thought about a high A wing with good passive safety possibly recovering better than a basic low A wing but that makes a lot of sense. It really shows that the details of the design matter more than the general category. Based on your experience, are there specific design features, such as a more pronounced shark nose or a different aspect ratio, that appear to enhance collapse resistance and recovery the most?
