Ballast fix for a lighter wing?

Lost 26 lbs and now my glider's handling is off. Already have water weight in my harness but need another few liters to balance things out. Backpack in front, weight vest or something else?

been there! every pound counts in the air. you know, a weight vest could work, keeps the weight closer to your core, which might be better for control

Good point. Keeping the weight close to my core might help with balance instead of shifting mid-flight. Have you used a vest yourself?

Absolutely! Keeping that weight close to your core really gives you a better sense of control. I can't help but wonder, does putting on a weight vest actually make a difference in how you handle things while you're in flight?

Go with a proper weight vest and @SkyboundRunner to answer the question, it keeps mass close to your center, doesn't jack up your balance, and doesn't block your instruments, anyway @lowblowjoe if you're that far out of the wing's ideal range now, maybe think about sizing down the glider altogether

Thanks for confirming the benefits of a vest. You've really given me some food for thought with the suggestion about sizing down the wing altogether. That's a much bigger question I'll need to chew on for a permanent fix.

I appreciate the follow up questions. I fly a pod harness and was looking to add about another 8 pounds. All the advice here was very helpful and pushed me to go for the permanent fix instead of carrying all that ballast. I was able to find a smaller wing in my ideal weight range and the difference in handling is amazing.

Smart decision, proper wing loading is far superior to hauling around extra weight. It leads to better handling, improved efficiency, and less strain on your body. Your back will definitely appreciate it on those extended flights!
